QWF actively seeks to maximize diversity in its staff, part-time employees, members, and board of directors. We welcome applications from all qualified individuals and encourage Indigenous people, people of colour, LGBTQ+ and gender-nonconforming people, people with disabilities, people living with socio-economic hardship, women, and members of any other marginalized group to self-identify if they are comfortable doing so.

Workshop proposals are accepted year-round. The workshop committee meets in the summer each year to review the applications and plan the subsequent calendar year’s activities.

The deadline to be considered for the 2027 workshop series was July 20, 2026. Proposals submitted after that date will be considered for the 2028 workshop series.

About QWF Workshops

QWF workshops cover a wide range of  subjects, and we welcome new ideas. Recent subjects have included short-  and long-form fiction, poetry, non-fiction, translation, and children’s  literature. There have also been workshops on self-publishing, book  marketing, conducting research, freelancing, and more.

Most sessions are open to all.  Occasionally, we offer an introductory creative writing workshop, or a  master class requiring potential participants to submit writing samples.

Workshop Formats

Most workshops follow a hybrid format,  with the majority of participants attending in person at the QWF office  and up to two virtual spots reserved for people who can’t attend in  person. We also welcome proposals for online-only workshops. Most  workshops have a maximum of 12 participants.

Typical workshop formats include one-day  Saturday workshops (10:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.) and eight-week evening  workshops (either 5:45–7:45 p.m. or 8:00–10:00 p.m.). Proposals for  other formats, such as ten-week advanced workshops or three-hour  workshops, are also welcome.

To propose a workshop for the 2027 series, please prepare the following as a single Word or PDF document:
